Xanadu Next of Kin Shiraz 2011

There’s the big, beefy kind of Aussie shiraz, and then there’s a more restrained version. This Margaret River wine fits the second type. Black cherries, aniseed, cedar and earthy mystery meet the nose, with silky texture and refinement in the mouth. The sustained flavour is ripe, and an appetising line of acidity keeps it fresh and bright. Tannins are soft and friendly. (Screw cap; 14.5 per cent alcohol.)
